Natsuzawa Kosen Mountain Lodge Information

Established in 1918 Natsuzawa Kosen is a hot spring hotel with a history dating back approximately 100 years.
The Japan Alps’ 3rd and 5th highest peaks, Mt. Yarigatake and the Hotakadake mountain range, can be seen above a sea of clouds from the guestrooms and in front of the entrance. The 5th highest altitude hot spring in Japan.

Elevation: 2,060 m. The best location to approach Mt. Iodake, Mt. Tengudake, and Mt. Akadake.
Approach
30 min from Sakuradaira, 2 hr and 10 min to Mt. Iodake, and 2 hr and 30 min to Mt. Tengudake. Recommended hiking trailhead.

Hot Spring Day Bathing Information

1,000 yen entrance fee (tax included) for customers other than guests. A commemorative towel with “Natsuzawa Kosen” written on it is included. After bathing, you can enjoy tea made with spring water.

*Guests of Natsuzawa Kosen may bath for free on the next day after their descent.
*Waiting may be necessary during busy periods.

Child Discount
When visiting as part of a family. Meal content is the same as for adults.
Junior high school students (13 – 15 years old): 2,000 yen discount
Elementary school students (6 – 12 years old): 4,000 yen discount
Preschool children (5 years old and under): Free (If a meal-set is required, the elementary school student fee applies)
* A different fee applies for groups (school hiking trips, etc.) The menu is also different.
The adult fee applies for high school students and above (15 years old and above).
*Preschool children will not receive a meal and are expected to sleep together with an adult in one of the provided futons.

Access

Trail Times From Main Trailheads

Rest time taken during hikes, particularly on sunny summer days, has not been included in the standard trail times. Trail times should only be used as a rough estimate, and actual times will depend on the weather, your health, your experience, your fellow hikers` experience, and your level of fitness. Please plan accordingly with plenty of leeway.

*Guests staying at Natsuzawa Kosen may use the free shuttle service.

Shuttle Service for Natsuzawa Kosen

  1. A free year-round shuttle service between JR Chino Station and Sakuradaira (trailhead) is provided for Natsuzawa Kosen guests. Please make use of the shuttle service if the scheduled times are convenient for you.
    The 3 pick-up locations are Chino Station, the junction between Sakuradaira and Karasawa Kosen, and Sakuradaira Lower Parking Lot.
    Shuttle services are not available to/from Sakuradaira Middle Parking Lot and Sakuradaira Upper Parking Lot.
  2. Sakuradaira (trailhead) is located approximately 2 km from Natsuzawa Kosen. It takes approx. 30 min on foot to ascend to. During winter, this time may vary depending on the amount of snow cover.
  3. More travel time may be necessary in winter due to fallen snow and frozen roads.
    Please note, there may be delays to the pick-up/drop-off times due to attaching/removing chains, etc.
  4. Safety takes priority on this service.
    If there is a possibility that your safety cannot be guaranteed due to sudden snowfall, road surface conditions, etc., it may not be possible to travel to Sakuradaira.
    In some cases, it may be necessary to walk from behind the drop-off location while carrying your luggage.

Chukyo/Kansai Area: Departure at Nagoya 7:00 (change at Shiojiri Station)/Arrival at Chino Station 9:28. Please contact the office in advance if you are travelling via this route.

*2Junction and Sakuradaira Lower Parking Lot 9:40/16:00 times are the meeting times for those locations. As the shuttle will head there after picking up guests at the station, please note that arrival may be delayed by around 10–20 minutes depending on road conditions.

Caution

The shuttle service is available during the snowy and non-snowy seasons. The shuttle vehicle will arrive at about 15:30 at Chino Station East Exit.
If you are purchasing a reserved-seat ticket for the Shinjuku-bound Limited Express "Azusa," we kindly ask that you take the Azusa No. 44, departing from Chino Station at 16:20. Due to road conditions, traffic congestion, and other factors, there is a possibility that you may not arrive at the station as scheduled. As a precaution and to ensure safe, stress-free travel with ample time, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation. (Please note that, due to unforeseen circumstances, there is a possibility you may not make it in time for the Azusa No. 42, which departs at 15:42.)

There are 3 different free-to-use parking lots in Sakuradaira.

  • Sakuradaira Upper Parking Lot About 20 Spaces
  • Sakuradaira Middle Parking Lot About 60 Spaces: Toilets are available (closed in winter)
  • Sakuradaira Lower Parking Lot About 70 Spaces

*Minibuses cannot enter due to the narrow road beyond the Sakuradaira and Karasawa kosen junction.
